south coast adventure

Somewhere between Margate and Shelly Beach, with the windows down and the ocean sparkling, it hits you, this is exactly what we needed. The beach holiday your family has been waiting for. No wetsuits. No icy dips. Just warm water, barefoot boardwalks, fresh fish on the braai, and that easy KZN South Coast pace.

While others are layering up for a cold front, you’re building sandcastles and making memories, the MyResorts way.

Why the KZN South Coast Wins Every Time

South Africa has an extraordinary coastline!

The KZN South Coast is one of the few stretches where the ocean is genuinely warm year-round, the beaches are safe for families, and the pace of life slows to something close to perfect.

  • Warm Indian Ocean water averaging 22–26°C

  • Sheltered beaches with gentle waves are ideal for kids and nervous swimmers

  • Tidal pools teeming with sea life for hours of free entertainment

  • A laid-back vibe that feels nothing like the bustle of Durban city

  • Wallet-friendly accommodation, restaurants, and activities

And the best part? Most South Africans still drive straight past it on the way to somewhere else. Which means less crowds, easier parking, and resorts that still feel like a genuine escape.

when to go

The KZN South Coast is a year-round destination, but timing matters:

  • December – January: Peak summer. Warm, festive, buzzing. Book early, it fills up fast.
  • April (Easter): Warm water, smaller crowds, perfect weather. The sweet spot.
  • June–July: Whale watching season begins. The ocean is cooler but still swimmable. Fewer tourists = better rates.
  • September – October: Spring. Wildflowers, warm air, uncrowded beaches. Our hidden favourite.
